Ask la Cour, former Principal dancer with New York City Ballet is originally from Copenhagen, Denmark where he studied at The Royal Danish Ballet School for 8 years until he joined the company as an apprentice at age 16. He performed many featured roles in the Bournonville repertoire and became proficient in the Bournonville technique. Other accomplishments at The Royal Danish Ballet were his portrayal of Lenski in John Cranko’s Onegin.
Following his desire to expand his artistic horrison, Mr. la Cour joined New York City Ballet in the Fall of 2002 and embarked on a journey learning the depths of Balanchine’s repertoire, his most favorite being the Neoclassical ballets. He also had the pleasure to work with choreographers including Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, Benjamin Millepied and Lauren Lovette. His dance career has brought him around the globe where he has performed on some of the biggest cultural institutions including, the Royal Opera House in London, Palais Garnier in Paris, and Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg to name a few.
Mr. la Cour enjoys pursuing choreographic projects, collaborating with various classical and contemporary artists and composers.
He has received several awards and grants and feels driven to give back to artists and the community at large whenever possible
